Glen Campbell at the first unofficial ACM Awards Ceremony in 1963

Glen Campbell played a major role in developing the American Country Music Awards. Before 1963, west coast country was not getting the recognition it deserved, even with all the contributions it has made to country music as a whole. Therefore, Glen Campbell, along with songwriter and publisher, Eddie Miller came up with the idea for a West Coast country music awards presentation. It did not become officially founded until 1964 where it was renamed, “Country and Western Music Academy”.
